Prison Task Force
Four members of the Chapter Task Force on Women in Prison attended a full day seminar at John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Prisoners and Writing. Ellen Luks, Audrey Poole, Estelle Dashman, and Bea Loren said the experience offered further insights into inmate concerns which will help them in facilitating their monthly exchanges with the NOW chapter in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. Task Force members are invited, along with hundreds of other volunteers at the prison, to a volunteer appreciation dinner on June 3rd.

Florence Tabor Leaves Westchester
At a flurry of farewell parties, friends and relatives bid a fond but reluctant farewell to a stalwart of the activist community. In addition to being co-chair of the NOW Women in Prison Task Force and an active participant in the feminist book discussion group, Florence was a staunch supporter of Wespac and Women Strike for Peace. On May 6, Florence joined her son, old friends, and warmer winters in southern California. We wish her the best.

An Evening with Hilda Green Demsky
An invitation to a very special private showing of Hilda Green Demsky's solo exhibition at the Mamaroneck Artists Guild (see page 4). Combining feminism and art in her life, Hilda has long been an active member of NOW and a well-known artist. Her feminism began about the time she became Bella Abzug's driver in Abzug's first congressional campaign. Hilda has exhibited throughout Westchester, across several states, including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington D.C. and Greece. Her talk on September 21 is sure to be fascinating and I urge everyone to attend. Please leave a message on the NOW phone if you can attend - we need to know how many to prepare for.

Summer Solstice
For those of you who have never been to Patrice Ingrassia's, I urge you to come to the Solstice party. Her lovely home is the perfect setting for a celebration of women, looking back to last year's activities and looking forward to upcoming ones. I hope to see many of you June 18!

Congratulations to Charlotte Watson
NOW member and Director of My Sister's Place who has been named by Gov. Pataki as Executive Director of the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. In this well-deserved promotion to a wider stage, Charlotte will bring great talent and commitment to the benefit of the domestic arena in Albany and statewide. We wish her the best.
