Clinton and Schumer Asked For Their Support
As part of National NOW's March 8th action in support of women's reproductive rights, the Westchester chapter of NOW will send the following letter to our senatorial representatives:

Dear Senator Schumer, Dear Senator Clinton,

Currently, there is only a slim balance in favor of women's reproductive rights on the U.S. Supreme Court. Conservative Justices like Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas continue to search for opportunities to undermine:

  • Women's access to abortion
  • The wall between Church and State
  • The ability of the federal government to address discrimination and inequality
  • Guarantees of individual liberties that represent the core of our democracy

In response to the national tragedy of September 11, George W. Bush has used national security concerns to aggressively expand police powers, military funding and corporate tax giveaways while undercutting women's rights, civil liberties and civil rights. Ultra-conservatives in the U.S. Senate are fast-tracking the nomination and appointment of right-wing judges to the federal district and appellate courts. This effort to roll back our rights must be stopped!

We urge you to oppose the appointment of right wing, ideologues to the U.S. Supreme Court and other levels of the federal judiciary and to take decisive action to demand close scrutiny of all judicial nominees.

Sincerely,
Luba Fineson for the Members of the Westchester Chapter of the National Organization for Women
