Pay tribute to Women's History Month with Westchester NOW
The Westchester Chapter of the National Organization for Women will present a program entitled Reconnect With Feminism on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at 7:30pm at the YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester.
Jan Warren, former president of the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Chapter of NOW, who was convicted under the Rockefeller drug laws and served twelve years, will be the lead speaker. Recently paroled, she will tell the story of her life in prison, how feminism educated and inspired her, how the NOW Chapter at Bedford Hills developed and how it helps women in prison.
Sioux Taylor, former Westchester NOW president, will speak of the activities of the Westchester Chapter through the years. Jennie Ries, Co-founder - Catholics for Choice, will speak about the pro-choice movement, and Beth Levy, Attorney - Women's Law Clinic, will discuss women and the law.
Many young women today do not know the history of the women's movement, nor understand how the many opportunities they now have are open because feminists fought to achieve them. This program is for them. Other women, many of them former activists, have moved on in their lives. This program is a reminder to them of how far the women's movement has come, and how far it has yet to go.
Following the speakers there will be time for discussion. Light refreshments will be served. Come share your feminist experiences!
The YWCA is at 515 North Street, White Plains. For further information, call Luba Fineson at 834-6264 or Sioux Taylor at 668-0595.
