Roybal-Allard Breast-Feeding Amendment Passes

An amendment offered by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) to explicitly permit breast-feeding in National Parks and national museums was adopted unanimously by the House Appropriations Committee on July 1st as part of the Fiscal Year 2000 Interior Appropriations. Rep. Roybal-Allard said that the amendment was prompted by numerous reports from women who said that they had been asked to stop breast-feeding their infants or had been humiliated by National Park Service Rangers or museum guards.
