WHITE
PLAINS, October 31, 2001 The Political Action Committee of the Westchester chapter of the
National Organization for Women announced its endorsements of local candidates
today.
These
candidates for county executive, district attorney, county clerk, and county
legislator deserve support, commented Jon Wegienek, chair of Westchester NOWs
political action committee.
Our committee believes they will promote laws and policies that speak to the
needs of the women and children in Westchester County.
Candidates
were evaluated based on their responses to a questionnaire. Budget issues covered included continued
funding for programs to combat violence against women , the provision of
day-care subsidies and monies to increase the availability of infant and
toddler care, and the maintenance of the operation of the independent
Neighborhood Health Centers, among others.
Additional issues addressed included reproductive rights, affirmative
action, pay equity, and support for the state-wide Sexual Orientation
Non-Discrimination Act.
